Avid front BBDB "clicking"(4 posts)

Avid front BBDB "clicking"Willy Vanilly
Jan 3, 2004 8:33 AM
I have a 6" Avid mounted on a Fox Vanilla R. On a longer ride yesterday I noticed that as soon as I tap the front brake, there is a slight "click" (audible but not felt at the lever). It seems to be right as the pad engages the rotor. Is this normal? I seem to remember this from another bike and forgetting about it (b/c it went away...?). Also, is there any diff between front and rear brakes other than the adapter? Thanks

...there is no difference between front and rear calipers (as long as both look the same — the original calipers fit slightly differetly from the v.2 calipers).

This probably isn't the source of your clicking noise since you seem to have narrowed it down to the caliper, but I once had a clicking that resulted from the cable twisting slightly in the lever body to where the head of the cable wasn't sitting square in its carrier. The noise came from the the cable head twisting slightly and seating itself just as I squeezed the lever.

Oooh. Good suggestion. I'd had that once too but had forgotten to check it out. I'll give it a look. Thanks.
I think its normal...BH
