| Possible to replace Deore Shimano rotors with Avid rotors? | Kelvin Jan 5, 2004 9:16 PM | | I have managed to find some new Avid mech rotors going cheap. Can i replace my Deore BRM555 Hydro rotors with these rotors? What measurements do i have to take into consideration? Thanks all.... |

Diameter is really the only dimension you need to worry about. If it's the same you are all set. A friend is running six bolt XT rotors with his Avid Mechanicals and has been doing so for a few months. |

| Don't ride in the wet huh? | Schtoo Jan 7, 2004 5:29 AM | | If you so much as see a single drop of water, then kiss yer tail goodbye, yer brakes are gonna die.
The Deore pads are a resin that does not work well with conventional SS rotor. I know, I used the 515 with a Hayes rotor. Unbelieveable in the dry, non-existant in the wet.
I have seen an OEM install using XT rotors with 555 calipers. That might work and you can get XT rotors cheap if you look hard enough (JensonUSA...). |
| Use a 160mm Avid rotor & it will work just fine. | Mackie Jan 7, 2004 5:57 AM | | As for the Deore pads being bad in the wet, I own 2 sets of 555s, and I never experienced this lack of power, either before or after I switched out the rotors for new ones.
The stock pads on the 555s were really pretty good, but I prefer EBC golds. |
