| Magura Cultists help! | Bein Jan 8, 2004 4:00 PM | | So I've just gotten delivery of a pair of Louise's, and about to install them when I notice the levers are the other way around from what I prefer. The left lever controls the front etc, and I want it the other way around.
Can I swap levers without having to bleed the lines? Don't have my bleed kit yet. |
| Sure ya can and.................. | Mike T. Jan 8, 2004 4:30 PM | | .....all the necessary info will be on my Magura Cult site. Of course make one mistake and you're SOL.

| Sure ya can and.................. | Bein Jan 8, 2004 8:28 PM | | Well, followed the instructions on both Magura manual and MC site. No spills, swapped the lines perfectly. Then I find out the front line is pretty damn short, just barely reaches the caliper mounts on my Z1 FR. But that's fine. The rear line is too bleedin' long though, by about 6 inches so will have to shorten it. Fingers crossed that I can do it without bleeding afterwards... why does Magura size these hydro lines weird? Ran out of those shims for the rear too, used 10 on the front, need 4 in the rear, but only got 2 left. Life ain't easy... |
| They............. | Mike T. Jan 8, 2004 9:31 PM | | ......size the lines for the longest application that they can imagine. Almost everyone needs to shorten them. That operation is on my site too.

| Cut's fine but | Bein Jan 9, 2004 5:21 AM | | Long lines that need to be cut is fair, but going moto on the front results in a line that's too short. The front hose is not quite adequately long when the levers are swapped. It's a PITA. Magura sells plastic hoses for $38 for 2.5m lengths. All I need is an extra 3 inches. Not happy with this product. |
| I've swapped............... | Mike T. Jan 9, 2004 6:43 AM | | .....many Magura brakes to Moto from the normal N.American style. The country importing the brakes from Magura or the OE manufacturer can specify which lever is connected to which brake. I guess, if you're in N.Am, that MaguraUSA decides to get all the brakes shipped over here plumbed in the N.Am style of left/front.
I too am in N.Am but prefer Moto. I've never had a line that was too short when I've done the swap. I guess then it comes down to the particular bike or your preference for length of line.
Try contacting MaguraUSA and explain your problem. Maybe they can help.

| No luck, swapping levers is bad for Maguras | Bein Jan 9, 2004 11:24 AM | | I'm in USA, but I still wanted to go moto. My fork has 130mm travel, how much does yours have? Maybe the swap is trouble-free only if forks are 80mm travel or less. At the moment my right lever is as far inboard as it can go, and the front hose has to go between the forks (right next to the wheel) to reach the caliper. Even then it's a pretty tight fit, the hose is rubbing against the fork stanchion and there's no slack at all.
Magura's no help, rang them and got told I have to pay $38 (plus $7.50 shipping) for 2.5m of plastic hose. They don't sell them in shorter lengths. $38 is a ridiculous price for a piece of plastic tubing with a metal bit at its end. Shims for the caliper mounts are 50 cents each and I must buy a minimum 20 pieces for $10, when I only need 2 more.
Can't tell ya how the brakes perform, I can't even put the freakin' things on! I'm regretting buying Magura, should have gone with Hayes. |
