I was wondering if you could swap say from a 6 to an 8 without changing everything else?
Like say for avid mech?
Like put on a 8in for your downhill rides then go back to a 6 for xc?

What about different rotor manufacture?

Like would there be an advantage by putting on hayes rotor on an avid set of brakes?

Thanks for the wierd questions!

You'll have to add spacers or an adapter to the caliper (whatever Avid uses) and swap the rotor. You will probably have to readjust them because the distance between the lever and caliper will change. HAYES rotors suck (sorry, had 8 of these), stick with Avids. Go with something else if you want. Make sure it's the same size, not like 7" from Magura when you want normal 8". I use Grimeca or Shitmano XT rotors, never had any problems.

Good Luck,
