XT brakes - What's the diff. between M756 and M755's?ebxtreme

Hi all,

Don't know much 'bout XT discs and I'm looking at some for one of my bikes. I have a few friends that've had nothing but good things to say 'bout theirs...so I'm considering them. I'm seeing some great deals on the older models (non-spline rotors) and I'm wondering what are the main differences between the M756 and the M755's?? Was there a significant upgrade that took place on these and if so, what? I'm wondering because the M755's are a bit cheaper and from pics, they look the same, but I'm guessing that there was some changes made that will make the M756's worth the extra cheddar$$. Shimano brake gurus....what say ye? Help a brotha out. Cheers!

That the hoses on the M756's are the cutable type. The M755's had the braided lines (un-cutable) and the older lever/master design. The M756 lever/master is the same as the M525/555 lever.
Where are you going to get your set? (the older ones). I have the first gen. of the XT hydros and they rock!! Fibrax stintered pads work great in them, and the EBC greens are good too.

Thanks for the head's up fellas. A few folks are selling the M755 fronts cheap (w/out hoses) like Pricepoint, etc. The rear is a bit harder to find...but Cambria has the rear including the hose for $120 and the M756's for $129 a side. If someone knows of a better deal around, I'd certainly appreciate it.

One last question. If, down the road, I want to convert these to fit 8" rotors, where does one find the proper adaptors? Will they work with most IS 8" adaptors or does shimano have a special setup? Also, are Avid and Shimano rotors interchangeable?

The adapters........Mr. Tokyo

You can get from Shimano, Grimeca, GRC to name a few (the adapters). The rotors are inter changeable (if exactly the same size, since there are 8' rotors in 200,205,208mm) and I think the Avid rotor is .2mm thicker.
