Avid Discs - BB or Juicy Opinions PleaseMTBDad

I am going to build a new F/S rig later this year and wanted to run discs for something new. I was going to cannibialize the Ute in the ear term to build the new bike, but if I go discs will obviously need new wheels and brakes. I think the spread the expense out over a couple of months I am going to convert the hardtail to front disc. Anyway, the wheel is no problem gonna stay with CK/Mavic, but not sure about the brake. I am not concerned about 100g so weight will not be enough to go hydro. Larry the man at MtnHigh has shared his thoughts and thats been pretty much enough for me to decide, but then I figured I have all these tried and ture users out there to share their wisdom. Thanx in advance!!!

Well, I ride a Avid BBDB. They have tonnes of powerto spare. I also use a Speed Dial 5 lever set as well (helps with the over all feel of the brake). Juicy 7's have more adjustment options. I know you're not too concerned about weight, but what about a pierced hydro brake line in the middle of a ride? I would suggest the mechanical Avid. Much lighter weight, simplicity, easy to install and tune.

hydro discs are actually lighter than mechanicals. avid mechanicals are the heaviest brake system out there i think. when you add up the levers, cables and housing, disc, and the caliper; the total weight is more than a hayes hydro system. and i think hayes are considered heavy. the new juicys are claimed to be 15 grams lighter than hayes

I use avid mechanicals on my heckler and like them. when i was researching on my bike build i also thought the mechanical system would be lighter than a hydro system. but they're not
