| Need 8" brakes for new frame. | duc135 Jan 15, 2004 10:59 PM | | OK, looks like the consensus is that I won't be able to use my Marta's after all on my new Banshee Scream. Now I need to get a new 8" brake system. Any suggestions? I only weigh about 135 lbs. with full gear and am not too agressive of a rider yet. I like to go (not too steep)downhills fast and do 7' drops when I can find um. I'm also running a Marzocchi Z1 FR SL 130mm up front btw in case there may be issues with that. Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I have a set of Hayes Comps on my other bike and don't like the feel of the levers in my fingers. I'm from the LA area if you wanna know.

| Thought you were getting a Bullit? Now a Scream? | Pat T.® Jan 16, 2004 10:30 AM | | You don't "need" an 8" rotor brake system, if you only weigh 130lbs then just about any brake would be fine, I use a 190mm on the front and 160mm on the rear with no problems and I weigh 240lbs. That fork is going to be scary on an 8" travel bike.... it will not handle well, very twitchy. But hey your young and bounce well......LOL |
| Thought you were getting a Bullit? Now a Scream? | duc135 Jan 16, 2004 11:54 AM | | I would love to use my old 6" brakes, but the Scream has mounts for an 8" rotor system. Unless there is an adapter to allow the use of a 6" rotor, I'm stuck. Twitchy? Dammit! I don't want to have to buy a new for too. How about the Z150's will they be ok? I was just going to run the rear at 6" if it was too bad. |
| Yes and no.... | Pat T.® Jan 16, 2004 3:38 PM | | The Scream is set up to run Hayes 8" brakes with an adapter, so it is still an I/S mount. The only problem is you may not get the rotor to line up correctly.... seems kind of weird to me, it may have to do with the HUGE dropouts and that they are horizontal. Email Jamie at Banshee jamie@bansheebikes.com and see what he has to say on the issue, if you can run the brakes you have without too much worry that'd be cool, he could also help you with the fork. The Z150 would be really sweet, but they may tell you the other fork would be just fine. They know the bike way better than I do. Here's the blip from their manual...........
The rear disc brake mounting bolt hole pattern is designed for an 8" Hayes disc brake with adapter
number 74-23. Other brakes may work but we haven't tested them officially yet. You'll have to experiment
if you want to run other brakes. When you're experimenting with other brakes, make sure that the brake pads
are fully contacting the rotor in the position that you want to run the wheel in. If the brake pads get an uneven
wear "step" on them, you can file them flat in a vise.
