| Does anyone make... | CrazySteve... Sep 4, 2001 1:45 PM | | Rear shock springs that are Progressive? What i am looking for is a spring for my Fox RC shock that gets slightly progressive towards the very end of its travel... I want to be able to run my current weight of spring that gives me my correct sag amount with hardly 1-2 turns of preload, but, still not bottom repeatedly... I can usually dial my rear suspension in to where during training runs i am using most of my shocks stroke, but, still have aprox a 1/16th to an 1/8th left on the shaft before the bottom out bumper touches all the way down... I want to be using my travel, but, still have that little left, plus the bumper for the occasional big hits... I don't want to have to change my sag and stiffen up the rear and loose my small/mid range plushness... Any spring suggestions? THANKS a ton... PS, someone suggested using some compression damping clicks to fight bottoming, but, everytime i tinker with this it seems to take away from the initial small bump plushness of my travel... |
| re: Does anyone make... | Garson Sep 4, 2001 2:00 PM | | I've seen noleen springs with two different coils (it starts coiled loosely, and then the coil becomes tighter) and it was meant to do exactly what you are talking about. Don't know if anybody else makes them. |
| I may be wrong...... | Damn True Sep 4, 2001 2:07 PM | | Isn't it the geometry of the suspension that determines if the rate is falling, linear, or rising in rate?
I know there is such a thing as a progressive spring, but if you put it on a falling rate bike (ie Yeti DH-8) would its effect be nullified? |
| right you are. | Garson Sep 4, 2001 2:51 PM | | The progressive spring just eases the effect of bottoming, and makes for a progressive ride on a flat rate bike. |
| Stratos | Yuppie Sep 4, 2001 5:14 PM | | Stratos makes some progressive shocks and springs..... |
| What about MRP Rear Speed springs??? | CrazySteve... Sep 4, 2001 6:02 PM | | ...someone emailed me and said that they believe the MRP Rear springs are wound "progressive", does anyone have experience with these springs? My bike is a linear rate design basicly, its a single-pivot santa cruz type design... Does anyone use their Compression damping clicker and have you also noticed that it changes the initial plushness of your suspension, or is it just me? Thanks... |
