Toping out noise with 6" Boxxer.....(3 posts)

Toping out noise with 6" Boxxer.....CraigH

I'm getting a topping out noise with my Boxxer now and not sure why.

The oil level is set to 120mm. Springs are 1 blue & 1 red. Oil is 15wt compression, 20 wt rebound. 3 preload spacers a side.

It started before the last oil change when the level got to low. I didn't ride it any more after it started making the toping out noise. I wasn't getting the noise before that.

Do I need to pull out the 2 cartridges and check them for damage?

Thanks for any suggestions!

tear it down, drain it, and inspect the cartridges. My rebound seal started leaking when i was riding with Acadian, so I tore it totally down, meticulously cleaned all the parts associated with the seals, took both the rebound and compression carts out, inspected them, changed out the top out spring with a heavier one just for the heck of it and because I had a perfectly sized one laying around, and put it back together after cleaning pratically every part of it, I have not realy ridden it much since the rebuild, but I suggest you do the same to inspect it for any damage. I dont really know why it would top out, usually when i go with a higher oil level it decreases my overall travel, but doesn't do anything to the top out. Top out to me indicates either too little oil in the rebound leg, or something wrong with the springs.
Okay, tear down it is....CraigH

I have a bunch of new parts to go on the bike anyway, so that sounds like a good a time as any to go through the fork completely.
