| Konadude - more size info needed... | Bear Sep 5, 2001 9:45 AM | | Hi there,
Since you said i could contact you for info, here we go ;o) I don't know if you remember our discussion, but i was going to buy a Stuff and was asking for sizing you recommended a 17 inch
Just went to my LBS and they only have a Stuff in 15 inch, which seems to small. They also have a Roast in 18 inch and a Scrap in 17. I can get a good deal on the Roast. Do you think the 18 will be too big. I tried it around in the parking lot and it seemed fine, but again it was just a parking lot test so you can't really tell.
I'm 6ft1 and I'd be using the bike for pretty mmuch anything from North Shore type stuff, alot of jumping (bmx track) and a little trailriding.
Would the 18 be really too big, whats the difference between the 17 and 18?
Sorry for all the Q's but you were very helpful last time so... ;)
Thanks in advance,

| re: Konadude - more size info needed... | KonaDude Sep 5, 2001 7:28 PM | | I rode an 18" Stuff for a little while, and I was quite happy on it for jumping, hucking, all that fun stuff. It was still big enough and had a long enough top tube so I didn't get any toe to front tire contact and could raise the seat for extended commutes, but small enough to drop the seat and go big.
The difference between the 17 and the 18 is mainly top tube length and an inch of seat tube height. Not enough to make a huge difference, but if it was on the big side for you (if you were 6 inches shorter) and we were sizing it for cross country, the difference would be more important.
With a 15" frame, it's great for dirt jumping and stuff like that, but only if that's ALL you're doing with it and have another bike to get around on. At our height, using a 17 or 18" frame doesn't have any real downfalls. I noticed a pretty big difference going from a 23.5" top tube on the Stuff I had to the 22" top tube on my Ruckus. The larger frames will have the longer top tube which I find better suits big guys like us.
If you can get a good deal on the Roast, I'd go for it. It has nicer cranks (Race Face seems to use nicer aluminum than TruVativ, that said there are lots of happy TruVativ customers out there too), a nicer frame (box tubes and beefier dropouts and stays), and some nicer parts in other areas too.
If you want to email me, feel free, if you have any more questions. I tend to write longer and more informative emails. my email address is in my information, simply remove the logical parts...
Hope this is of some assistance!
