| Available now or soon? | kpb Oct 3, 2001 7:40 AM | | I got a 6" Travel Turner RFX after much research about a year ago. I use it for XC Free-riding (don't know if this is a real category) which I consider technical terrain/4-8' drops with lots of climbing. I also use it for real DH, have a DC fork and put DH tires on it when I go up to the lifts. Works great for DH (albeit I'm not riding Pro level WC courses mostly since I can't find any at my mountains). It's a little heavy for the XC/Free-ride thing but that's mostly because I ride with guys that still use their 22 lb. XC bikes when we go and just ride around the drops, not enough downhill sections for me to make up the time I lose on all the climbs. I'll probably get a good 5" Single Crown next year and swap forks as I do tires depending where I'm riding.
If I were looking now I'd really consider bikes like the new Foes Fly, adjustable between 6 and 8 inches in the rear. Also look at the new SC Bullit coming soon with VPP and 7.5" travel. If I could get more travel out of my RFX when riding DH I'd be in Heaven. |

| RM Slayer 2001 | Slayer Oct 4, 2001 4:01 AM | | Mine goes up hills better than any 5 inch travel bike out there and it's made to take big hits. I got mine for $1200 ($2100 retail). It's got hydro disks and a Zokes Z.1 or Z.3LT. I ride XC/Urban/Freeride/Dirt Jump with it. |
| Giant AC for the $ or Kona Stinky | Dwilson Oct 4, 2001 2:06 PM | | For complete bikes, not frames, I like the Giant AC line especially the 2002 lineup. If you want a lighter bike go with the AC Air Lite or for a more solid bike the AC 1. You can adjust the Lite on the fly or the AC 2 with the Psylos, and the rear only takes about 30 seconds. The AC's are running around $1700-$2500.
The Stinky line by Kona can't be beat for a solid bike, handles great. A little heavy and isn't the best climber. Stinky goes for about $1500 and then the price goes up fast for the Deluxe and Primo. |
