SC Superlight and Shiver SC for lite dual?(6 posts)

SC Superlight and Shiver SC for lite dual?Malto

I broke an old Heckler and can get a SL for $450 from SC
under their lifetime crash replacement warranty. Should I get
one for the wife/me ds/xc/trail bike or spend the $450 towards something else? I am intrigued by the Shiver SC, would this work
out as a combo?

The new shiver SC is a 120mm travel fork. Santa Cruz recomends no more than 100mm. I wanted to go longer travel on my SL, SC says NO.

I had a 5" on the Heckler for 2 years, felt fine.
This is a warranty replacement frame for a cracked downtube
due to running a Stratos FR-5 dual crown. I am paying for the frame like I said, so I will run any fork I want to. Santa Cruz is very good about warranties, they personally looked at my bike with that DC fork and said "it will crack there" due to the stress the DC put on the early pointy-gusseted Heckler frame. It did. I am not worried about that with the Shiver single-crown and I like the geometry already so I guess I am answering my own question. Thank you for unlocking my mind! P.S. I will be for DS and general trail riding
not climbing and I'm getting a Medium (straight top tube).
P.S. I the new Hecklers look like poop...I hope the VPP 7.5"
saves their asses.

If you do go with the shiver sc on the sl post again and let me know how it works out, I've had my eye on that fork too. Good luck to you! I have to agree about the new heckler frame, What Were They Thinking? The new swing arm looks beefy but I don't know about that shock angle. I'd hate to see a great company like Santa Cruz Fuk up a good thing.

I will post any impressions as I get feedback from friends or get my hands on a fork. Visually, the new SC bike lineup looks a little feeble. Almost seems like too much diversity and they are starting to look like bad copies of SC bikes that another compnay might make!
This is all based on the Interbike pics I've seen so it's not really fair to judge them I guess....but the V10 and hopefully the FR VPP
bike will save the day aesthetically!
Cheers
