Where is the shock on this thing? I'm guessing Giant isn't moving towards longer stroke shocks like other manufacturers are. Over 8" of travel, what kind of leverage ratio is that?

Also, if you look at the white DH bike in the background (I believe it's the cheaper Giant DH Comp) it appears to have the new Super T on it with the same Michelin 2.8 so I would assume that both the Boxxer and the Super T can handle a 2.8 tire. There's been a lot of discussion on this over the past few months.
sure, a 2.8 michelin fits in a boxxerEl Coyote

a friend of mine has run that tire for all the season on his boxxer. Clearance is ok too.
it still has a pretty long shockJm

it is just hidden, the shock is arranged verticall and extend below the bottom bracket a little, however the chaingude completely masks it.

Essentialy it uses the exact same suspension setup as my cheeta Proline, however the shock rate is a little less optimal because the giant has .5" more travel, but not a big difference. The shock on the giant is arranged more vertically and my cheeta has the shock setting with more angle to the frame, the linkages work the exact same way though. The one with the boxxer is 4,000 i believe, while the white one is cheaper, however the suspension and travel in the rear and frames are the same on both.

Hey-
Thanks for the interest, here's what's up with the '02 DH bike:
The shock is indeed behind the chainguide, it's nestled in behind the bb, pretty low on the frame. It's a 9" long shock, with a 2.75" stroke, making 8.25" of travel.
The Michelin 2.8" tire does come stock on the front of both bikes, with a matching 2.5" rear on both.
Feel free to email me with any further questions.

Thanks again
