| Need advice on which lights to get.. | AMF Nov 5, 2001 2:33 PM | | What set up would you recommend for trail/freeriding and some street riding ?
I've been looking at Night Sun, Nite Rider, and Performance, but any advice on other systems is more than welcome.
Please mention combinations of helmet and handlebar mounts.
Thanks. |
| Light & Motion... | j5 Nov 5, 2001 2:53 PM | | Probably the ideal setup would be L&M cabeza (helmet mount) plus bar mount. i only have the helmet mount, but it's more than adequate for doing some pretty gnarly stuff at night. nice, white light, 5-10-15w adjustability with push of a button, battery pack is slightly larger than a pack of cig's, adjustable beam spread, excellent industrial design (looks cool), and amazing customer service. i left the cord dangling out of the car after one ride and the plug wore off on the highway. called up L&M, told them what happened, they told me no problem, send it in. had a new unit back in my hands in 2 days, no charge. their bar mount system has independently articulated heads with separate power adjustability so you can aim the beams at whatever you want. www.bikelights.com bottom line, if you're going to start at the minimal end, get a helmet mount. you lose some definition of the trail surface, but i think having light where you're looking is more important than having light where your bars happen to be pointing. if you're going all-out, get a helmet mount & bar mount. |
| Light & Motion are great lights | Agree to that Nov 5, 2001 7:22 PM | | Have had mine for awhile now. Always good run times and light (apex cabeza logic) is perfect for trail riding.
I raced 2 24hr events--the entire team showed up with them. That is a pretty solid endorsement, since two guys ditched their other light sets after using ours.
Enough said. |
| Light & Motion... | AMF Nov 6, 2001 3:34 PM | | Thanks. I just went thru their web site, they look good and have more features than the comparable Nite Riders despite a slightly higher price. Is it worth it ?
How do they work in the wet ? How sturdy are they ?
Do you know if you can use the same Turbo Charger on the Cabeza Logic and the Dual Logic batteries ?
Thanks again. |
| I'm using a NiteRider combo.... | CraigH Nov 5, 2001 3:09 PM | | Pro-6 bar, Headtrip helmet.
I've been happy with them.
If I had to do it again, I'd get a battery with a strap mount rather than a water bottle style as on my Bullit, the only water bottle mount I have is on the downtube which is rather vunerable. I bought mounts to put a water bottle cage on the fork stanction, but that is vunerable in a crash so I've gone through a lot of water bottle cages. (The Profile ones seem to last the longest.) |

I missed this ride due to another event I had already bought tickets for. I did ride this last Thursday evening in a monsoon. |
| Stadium III | Toshi Nov 5, 2001 8:03 PM | | It's a bit pricey, but I really like my Cateye Stadium (III I think) light. It is quite bright -- or at least oncoming car drivers think so, since they flash their high beams regularly -- and outlasts my endurance on cold night rides here in Boston. |
