| ...Paging Dougal... | CrazySteve... Nov 5, 2001 3:41 PM | | ... Hello Dougal, hopefully you are out there? I have a follow up to our discussion of last week... I figured out the angle on my Single-Pivot rear design to be in the neighborhood of 103-104 Degrees, with my bike having aprox 6.5-7" of rear wheel travel... Upon measuring my friends 2001 Foes DHS and another friends 2001 Santa Cruz Super-8, i find those framesets to be slightly sharper, in the area of 108-110 Degrees... Those frames also have aprox 8-8.5" of rear wheel travel and so this would mean that the angle change would be greater back towards 90 due to the swingarm traveling further on those frames, am i correct on this??? The Foes has a 3" stroke Curnutt shock installed and the Super-8 has a Fox RC with a 2.25" stroke, which is the same as my Fox RC on my bike... The Super-8 gets about 2" more of rear travel due to the lower shockmount being farther forward/closer to the main pivot and thus a higher lever ratio... Anyhow, if at Full-compression the angle falls to say 80 Degrees, then the suspension would be Falling-rate, meaning it gets softer at the end? And if it stays at 90 Degrees at least, or 91,92, then the suspension is still Progressive and keeps getting stiffer to the end of the travel? Am i correct, or going in the wrong direction? Again, THANKS TONS for your help as you seem to be the only one with the knowledge of the areas i am working on that is willing to reply and help! Steve... |
