what should i be looking for in a wheel builder?fknbiker

i am in serious need of advice in terms of wheels. basically, i am now on my third rim in as many months. they were all good, strong rims (mammoths, bfr, araya, etc..). granted, i do ride pretty seriously, but come on, 3 rims? what i notice with each (they were built by the same guy, the other was years old and not originally mine)is that some spokes are very loose, some are very tight; this is never really fixed no matter how many times my wheels are trued. basically, is this the fault of the wheel builder? if so, or even if not, what should i look for in a wheel builder? things like spoke prep, tension, lacing patterns and such. whats good and whats a no-no.
also, i have this same guy build me 2 azonic butcher rims which have been amazing. could it be the sun rims are not as good or could it be possible that he builds the hollow core type rim (azonic, arrow, atomiclabs)better than he does box section type rims (mammoths, bfr, planet x)or does this not matter and he just sucks? thanks all.

just make sure the spokes are at proper tension with a tension guage and they have been spoke preped then after a few rides get them rechecked. I mean have him put a spoke tension guage on every spoke.
he should get a tension guage and a tension sheet fron wheelsmith to see how much tension in on each spoke
