| Don't read this if you dislike editorial comments. | baldy Dec 10, 2001 7:34 PM | | This place has gotten a little weird lately. Lots of SPAM, lots of policing, lots of policing of SPAM, some bong questions, a little racism, some really stupid questions (what do we call ourselves?) and some mud slinging without the mud. I'm just waiting to see a post that reads "How many pro-life riders hate clipless and like to get stoned and listen to MP3s while hating Chinese people?" I see more enemies being made than common bonds. Maybe I'm just feeling soap boxy because it's pouring rain and I can't go tackle my favorite night time gaps, but I've noticed a trend on this board lately that really sucks. Every other post seems to just instigate a pissing contest. Granted, this ramble alone gives no technical advice or question, nor does it speak directly about the sport/hobby we all love, but like I said, it's raining out so forgive me. I guess what I'm getting at is this: Our passion for motorless motocross is far too young for such hate-breeding trivial issues. Maybe that's a bit drastic, hear me out. It's one thing to disagree with Joe Anonymous for spec'ing the "wrong" wheelset, but to burn bridges in what should be a tight fraternity is another. When I see someone on a bike, that person is automatically my friend. When I see someone on a DH bike, that person is automatically my brother. And far too seldomly, my sister. Granted, I live and ride in a DH/DS/Urban/FR vacuum (Charlotte, NC). I guess what I'm saying is that there is far too few of us out there to start these cyber hate fests. If you think my fork sucks, fine. If you think I'm stupid for plopping down 2 grand for a particular frame, that's your opinion that you are entitled to. Call me an idiot all day long for choosing Stratos over Marzocchi. But for crying out loud, at the end of the day, it is US against them. So lighten up people. I suppose I'm inviting some backlash here, but I'll blame everything on the rain. And the whiskey.
Again, I apologize for my little vent. But like many of you, this forum is a sanctuary that I visit throughout my 9 to 5 workday, and sometimes in the eve. I've learned a ton from the mutual exchange of info and stories told. Anyone and everyone that takes the time to answer or post a question/comment, I automatically assume to be my brother and/or sister. I guess I'm just bugged lately (last few days) by adolescent questions/comments/arguments that have nothing to do with cycling in general and would be more suited for the likes of a Dawson's Creek fan club forum.
Next post I'll have something relevent to say. I promise.

| Yo Zonic, Glad you responded. You're right... | baldy Dec 10, 2001 8:54 PM | | More than ever, I agree. Risers? Hell yeah. Dual crown? Without question. Rapid fire? Duh. But the boxers over briefs - that is one call that I leave to my fiance. Oh the sacrifices we make for the sake of the sport... |
| Boxer-briefs over boxers or briefs | B-B-BigRichDL Dec 11, 2001 5:50 AM | | YOu get the support for your "men" without the riding up and overall "cheese-dick-ness" of briefs.
Peas,

| yes, it must be the whiskey... | zedro Dec 10, 2001 11:24 PM | | i mean sure in an ideal world right? hell why would we even need hunks of rolling aluminum to bond people?
fact is, despite having the same hobby, we are just as individual as the next slob. I cant like everyone just cause they ride a bike and i dont expect them to just like me. However i do try to maintain my own code of conduct but i'm not gonna kiss anyones ass nor ignore it when someones kickin someone elses. I feel most of the regulars here play their own role here and having this place turn into a love-in would just be way too boring.
Face it, this is just as much as a DH passion forum as a tech forum. I would like the spamming (and policing) to be tured down a notch however. |

| No kidding | midget_o_rama Dec 11, 2001 7:54 AM | | Call me ignorant but I am not as shallow as that. Considering someone else that pedals my pal, that is. Some times I think it is a nice change of pace to include posts that are non-dh related. It reduces the monotony. The inflammatory flamer posts are not needed though, you are right. Just my opinion. But what the hell do I know? |
| Its a matter of home training and respect | B-B-BigRichDL Dec 11, 2001 6:07 AM | | really...If you wouldnt say something to someone to their face...then you shouldnt say it to them here. No one likes to be disrespected. Also, rules are in place for a reason. If someone SPAMS I think its OK to point out to them that they are breaking the rules. Perhaps it would be better not to pour gasoline on them and set them on fire while you're telling them but then again some people just won't listen.
I think everyone needs to try to be an adult(although some people arent technically adults yet). The internet makes everyone brave. Just think if some of you people actually ran into the people you have been flaming. I bet some people would be talking shit out of another end of their body.
Peace,
Rich

| I think the site is just dragging itself off the mat... | BrianMac Dec 11, 2001 7:43 AM | | From the "F go-ride/marketplace debacle/mass exodus to ridemonkey/general undoing" that went on a few months ago.
I would have given this place up for dead. Recently I think there has been more traffic and a little more real discussion. A few signs of life.
Nature abhors a vacuum, so I guess it's not too surprising that there has been some crap.
With the marketplace back real again, who knows.

| I think there is room for improvement...... | Dusty Bottoms Dec 11, 2001 10:48 AM | | ...When it comes to newbie questions. Just because someone asks a question that you've seen 1000 times, doesn't mean it's not a legitimate question. Who's to say it's not their first time on the board? A little tolerance goes a long way.
But, if they're trying to pimp their stuff on here, then by all means, gitcho flame on! |
