Good shops in Orlando, FL? (3 posts)
| Good shops in Orlando, FL? | petri Jan 8, 2002 7:34 AM | | It looks like I'm going to come over the pond at the end of Jan for the LotusSphere 2002. I'd like to take a break from the work- related stuff and get some parts I need (at least fork guards for the S8, maybe some rims and a chain guide etc)... Which shops do you recommend?
Also, can I rent a usable DH or freeride bike somewhere in there? Are there any decent runs nearby? In other words, is it worth it to waste luggage space by bringing my Dainese and helmet etc along?
Thanks,

| re: Good shops in Orlando, FL? | BRANDON Jan 8, 2002 7:52 AM | | i'm originally from orlando but it's been a few years since i've ridden there. as far as dh goes, no, there's not much to do. there is some good urban around church street in down town so you might need your pads for that. bike shops.....uh, well there are two decent ones on edgewater drive not far from downtown. one is called "orange cycles" and the other is daves cycle world, or something to that effect. not positive if daves is still in business though. last time i was there orange cycle was still a mostly xc shop but that was before the freeride revolution so they may have some good stuff. you're probably out of luck with the fork gaurds.
my brother still lives in fl, email me and i'll set you up with him. |
| Not much DH parts and stuff in the area.... | Str8Dwn Jan 8, 2002 10:00 PM | | But we do have a pretty decent trail area called Santos/Belleview. It's abot 1.5 hrs north of Orlando, but there are defintely some good drops there. It's all based in and around old limestone quarry pits. A good half to full day of riding. Most of the shops in FL are XC focused, I know; I used to manage one. If you need some parts, just mailorder them, and have them shipped to your hotel. You can pretty much forget any kind of DH bike for rent in FL. Also, there are 3 BMX tracks in the Orlando area that you might try and bring your bike to. That's always a blast. www.orlandoBMX.com or www.NBL.org, Trails.com has directions to Santos.
HAve Fun.
