Boxxer Questions...(6 posts)

Boxxer Questions...Super8
Jan 8, 2002 10:05 AM
hi,

i have questions regarding late model boxxers. were all 2000 boxxers 7 inches of travel? or was only the "pro" models? was 2001 the first year that all boxxers were 7" travel? also, how was this travel measured? i've been told that ' 7" ' boxxer really had 6" of positive travel and 1" of negative travel.

lastly, would it be horribly unbalanced to spec a 2000 boxxer 151 on a Super8 for DH racing?

thanks

all 2000 boxxers are 7 inch, and that's 7 inches of positive travel measured with zip tie. hope this helps
Are you sure it's not a 99?kristian

The 151 refers to the travel of the fork (6"). The "guy with a Boxxer" is right--all 2000 Boxxers were 7". If it really is a Boxxer 151, I'd bet whoever is selling it has their years wrong. That being said, I've got a 6" Boxxer on my Bullit and it feels like a perfect match--in other words, I think you want to get a bigger fork for a Super 8...

2000, 01 & 02 are 7" travel.

98, 99 & 2000 are red.

2001 & 2002 are mettalic red. (There were some 2001 Boxxers in black too.)

The model 151 is the travel in millimeters. (6")

6 inches on a super 8 is dangerous. If you have a 24inch rear wheel the bike will have a very steep headtube angle and be fairly dangerous. You can do it, but you will most likely end up hating the set-up because you will find yourself going over the bars every time you crash.

With a 26 inch rear wheel it will be a most terrible situation.

For example I had a 7inch monster T on a Super 8 in 2001 with two 26inch wheels and I went over the bars quite a bit. Everything was ok but the headtube angle was not pretty. every crash resulted in OTB. at least on a slack bike when you crash u sometimes fall to the side. if the bike is steep you go over the bars. Very unhealthy.

Go with at least a 7 inch fork. I recommend 8 inch fork or 7 inch fork with a drop crown adjusted to maximum slackness.

Believe me the Super 8 BEGS to be setup slack.
