| Ellsworth ID | vernik Jan 8, 2002 11:56 AM | | hi all ! I need a free ride machine.
what woul'd be better "Ellsworth ID " or the "Ellsworth joker"?
budget's no issue!!! |
| Don't know what "freeride" is, but... | Zonic Man Jan 8, 2002 12:41 PM | | The ID is a better trail bike, and the joker is more of a dh-oriented trail bike. |
| NO WAY DUDE! | Photo-John Jan 8, 2002 6:32 PM | | THE ID IS BADASSSSS> I CHALLENGE YOUR WUSSY ASS TO A CURB DROPPING CONTEST ANYTIME> I DID AN EIGHT INCH GAP OVER A SEWER GRATE YESTERDAY> I"LL HEAL< BUT THE BIKE RULEED!!!!!!!!!
PACIFIC RULESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS |
| I'll vouch for John here... | AS Jan 8, 2002 7:53 PM | | I saw him clear this rock last Sunday with his Id. What - Six? Seven inches maybe? |
| bull hockey | I saw Jan 8, 2002 11:45 PM | | I saw only like 4 inches clearance, then the frame friggin snapped in 2 pieces!!!!! |
| Id is a trail bike and the Joker is a Freeride bike | Dark Helmet Jan 8, 2002 1:37 PM | | Depends on ride application.
The ID is a great all around trail bike with minimal huck factor.
It offers you a frame and a 5.75" coil rear shock that weighs 7 lbs. and 10 ounces.
The Joker, although heavier (8.5-9 lbs.) and doesn't climb nearly as well as the ID, it is virtually indestructible. Very similar to the Bullit.
I'm not sure if I would categorize the Joker as a DH bike, to me, any bike that is less than 7" of front and rear travel and is not a single chainring (although you can make it one), I would not refer to as a DH bike. |
| re: Ellsworth ID | TurnerBoy Jan 8, 2002 1:37 PM | | Well, out of those two I'd get the Joker. The I.d. is not a freeride bike. If you ride it like a freeride bike should be ridden, you'll break it. From what I hear, the Jokers are pretty strong.
If money isn't an issue, get a Turner RFX. The RFX defines what a freeride bike should be. |
| Mmmmmm, Turner | Photo-John Jan 8, 2002 6:33 PM | | My next bike will be a Turner. |
| I pretty much agree... | swiss Jan 8, 2002 7:56 PM | | The Id is a long travel XC bike, that is from the people at Ellsworth and that is how I describe it as well. I rode it and it is too fast of a handling bike to be considered freeride. Also, the rear stays are from truth, granted those are pretty solid stays for XC but not for dropping stuff. The ID does indeed ride nice though. I owned a 2000 Dare and that was pretty similar, not the same, but similar. It climbs awesome. The Joker is a solid freeride rig. Dangerous Dan has been rockin one for a couple of years now. Why he does not ride something else? I dunno. But if he can do some huge drops and not break it I gotta guess it is solid. I do not consider it a DH rig as the geometry is not DH able. Yes, you can DH on it though. The RFX is a burely bike. Nice construction and can take up to a boxxer and x vert (7" lightweight fork). Also, the 2002 frame will have their version of the ISCG mounts. Pretty cool. I wish I could get a RFX in a 5" mode for a all around bike. NOt enough coin though. :( michael |
| I pretty much agree... | I saw Jan 8, 2002 11:48 PM | | I got one!!!!!!!!!
A 5 inch RFX...........schweet as it gets
Need I say more. |
| I have both... | lukeduke Jan 8, 2002 9:12 PM | | and I have to say I like the Joker better. The Id feels like a truth with a touch more travel. I just do not know if I would throw more serious obstacles at it. I have it set up with a Z1 QR20, rhino-lites, avid disk brakes, etc. The Joker I have with the Avid brakes, Hope hubs, and a Fox vanilla RLC125, and the Romic rear shock. The joker is just a blast to ride, the id is just OK. I used to have an RFX, one of the very first ones, did not like it much, but I know the new ones are better. Save the coin, get a Joker, you really will not regret it. In a few months you will be able to get a 5th Element shock for it, and then it will be all super-fun from there, and you will still have spent several hundred less than the Id, and have a VERY capable bike. Heck, just get the Joker, the 5th Element, and a Shiver SC, that is about what you could get for just the price of the Id frame alone. Defenitely something to think about. Good Luck! |
