Giant ac 1 any good?(6 posts)

Giant ac 1 any good?squishy

Is the Giant AC 1 any good for a second freeride bike, My first is a new RM 7 and I want something with less rear travel, but that has to also be able to take a dual crown 7incher. Thanks.

You will void your warrentty if you put a dual crown fork on an AC1. I love mines but I haven't done any real BIG drops on mines yet. I've had it for about 9mo now. Are you gonna buy the whole bike or just the frame?

A 7 inch for will turn an AC1 into a chopper (too slack).
What is the intended use of the 2nd bike?
If you have an RM7 you allready have a capable/race-able DH/Freeride bike.

Try one of the Orange Patriots (LT, normal or XC) or a Foes Zig Zag (very adjustable, dual slalom style) swap the stock shock for a romic.
I am suggesting the pure single pivots here because you have a linkage bike of sorts allready (linkages tend to pedal well vs more stiffness/lighter weight).

My Big Hit Comp frame would also be a good choice.
With the std link its got 5.5 or 6.3 inches of travel.
It can be upgraded to 8.1 inches with new shock and link.
24 inch rear wheel is something different (works well).
You could setup with the 7 inch fork and 6.3 inch rear travel (my current setup).
The long fork can be compensated for on this frame as the head angle is adjustbale (67/69 based on a 5 inch bomber).
Your RM for the fast and open and a big hit for the tight and technical.

I'm not a big fan of the giant AC bikes.
You get your rear shock really cheap when you buy a new frame it may as well bet a good one (at least a FOX).

i have an AC1 with a DH-3, chain guide, fox 2.3" stroke shock on it and its sweet, i just did a 1200'(of vertical) climb yesterday, and then bombed down some serios singletrack. its a sweet bike with some upgrades.

Like which model, and the i to i of it. Also, what does the additional stroke do to the angles and BB height.

The Fox shock doesn't come on the AC series bikes. It does, however come on the Kona Big Bear Deelux. The Marz. Shiver is the shock on the AC1, the Rock Shox Psylo comes on the AC2 and the AC Lite. I just purchased a 2002 AC Air with the Manitou Air Elite on it. Not Bad, not bad at all. The AC series bikes are awesome. An amazing amount of components for a reasonable price.
