Will 8" Hayes fit in the rear of a Joker???llkoolkeg

...and please, no funny comments like, "Well, it depends how loose the Joker is back there!" or, "Yes, unless Hayes has as much girth as length!"

I just want better braking without having to modify adapters or the like.

you can bolt on the x-vert 6" to 8" adaptor onto your current 6" adaptor. I'm going that route for my Stinky.
