| TREVOR --- Please post a pic of your rear snow tire--Thanks | JamesFF Jan 8, 2002 1:56 PM | | I am getting ready to build a snow tire set. I was wondering if you need side studs in your front or rear tire for cornering? Can you lay your bike over in a hard turn; about what angle are you able to lean it with your current front tire stud pattern before slipping? I have an old worn tireset and was going to use them while one of the tire are completely bald. Will this bald tire work with studs and are the original traction knobs also needed for traction while they already contain studs? Can you please post a picture of your rear snow tire stud pattern. Thanks. |

All you really need for a front tire is something with lugs big enough to support the weigh of the stud, so it dosent fold over. You DONT need studs down the center, they dont help, and will only slow you down. As far as turning stability goes Id say that with large lugs with about 5-10mm of a pretuding stud would allow you to kick ass on turns. FOr the front you need cornering and the studs need to have stability and support, as for the rear, support isent as important.
About the bald tire, it would probably work really well. This way the studs can contact all of the surface and really raelly hook. My friend did the with completly bald BMX tires and when he tucked back, adn engaged his brake, he dug 5mm groves in the ice.
the other tire in the picture is a hardrocker 'R 1.95 and it is my rear, its the best one Ive made so far
Hope this helps
LEmme know if your interested in buying that hardrocker, Iam starting to do trials so I dont have a use for it |
