What's a simple idea for bumpers for a double crown fork? Can you use old grips? Is this something readily available at good bike shops?
Old Tires Work Great!ManiacMatt

Just cut up old tires, they have always seemed to work great for me. I also always add one to my downtube for protection. Just use zip-ties to keep them on. Most bike shops will have old tires that they can either give oyu or sell to you for a very cheap price. Tire guards for the fork and downtube give your bike sort of a personalized look, especially if you use tready colored tires.

found I only had to use one, cut it in half, plenty for each leg, just wrap it around flat.
Is that adequate protection?DBRX10NC

Does a tube or tire provide protection? I'm talking about the stantions between the two crowns, where your forks may hit your frame. Should you use something kinda thick and padded there?
you could always double bag it....zedro

Not sure what to do about the zip ties(maybe I could use rubber bands instead?) but it seems to offer plenty of protection.
ODI BUMPERS ARE AVAILABLE???dh racer

I believe ODI makes some bumpers for forks. I'd try to get some through BTI, or any of the other distributors, just ask for them at your local shop. The ones I have seen are quite slick, they fit any fork (stanchion diameter) and have routing for zip ties to hold them on. Just ask to see a BTI catalog at your local shop, or maybe even contact ODI. I hope this helps.
Yes they will all workManiacMatt

The tread on the tires that you use acts as a bumper. When you wie out and the fork hits the frame, the rubber absorbs most of the impact rather than the frame. you should obviously use as tready of a tire as possible.
