| Feelings on Horst Link tyoe suspension designs? | Christo Jan 9, 2002 1:39 PM | | Any general feelings in regards to its advantages and disadvantages is greatly appreciated. i am in the market for a new dually and have seen it on many (m1, bighit, norco vps, and a few others) bikes so i figure it must have something going for it. how does it compare to other designs like single pivots, traditional 4 bar, cantilever, etc. thanks |

I've had 4 bar Horsst and liked it, but that specific bike became high maintenance at the many pivots. Now I have my second single pivot bike, with zero maintenance. The 4 bar maintenece issue has been resolved, largely, but if you ride in the wet, get sealed bearing cartidges. period. good boinging, Jim

The biggest thing I like about it over other suspension designs is that is very active in all situations, even hard braking. It bobs a bit, but a smooth spinning technique can remedy most of that. I even like that it active uphill as it gives better traction and on long uphills reduces fatigue just like on the downhills.
As long as the bike has sealed bearings in the pivots it should only need basic maintenance like cleaning, but that's about it. My bikes have been virtually trouble free in that area even riding in all the mud of the NW. Including the ones that came with bushings in the pivots--they just weren't as smooth.
