I have a Helix Expert on my i-drive and I wouldn't want to trade it for anything. A buddy had a Helix Pro on his Bullit and he loved it too (since replaced with a Romic).

That all said; I've never owned an RC, I have tremendous confidence in Fox products, but have heard more Vanilla RC bashing of late then I have in the past.

For the Bullit, I'd say look hard at the Romic. Great ride AND increase your travel too.

I have riden all those shox and the best shock is the romic.. Stratos blow up way to fast and does not allow full travel out of your bike. the air build up stops way to short. Fox is good if you cant get a romic. Feel fine but now where close to the feeling of the romic. I have tried them on five different bikes. and the Romic wins hands down..

Stratos Expert DH blew out on me on a very small 1' high dual jump....I prefer Fox--But a ROMIC is even more tunable...

I'm sure many people have blown Stratos shocks, but I'd bet not a larger percentage then Fox shock users.

As far as the Helix not allowing full travel due to the air pressure ramping up, it sounds to me like like it wasn't tuned for you and your bike. I'll admit that the Helix wasn't a "bolt on and forget" shock and that finding the perfect air pressure did take me a while, but now that it's tuned it's fantastic. Super plush on the coil spring, then progressive for the bigger hits at the end of travel.

FWIW, I have mine on an i-drive with 5.4" rear wheel travel from a 1.75" stroke Helix Expert.

I'm liking the new Romic shocks my friends are using a lot too. I've ridden an both Id and a Bullit with Romic shocks and both felt great.

go with the stratos. the air assist will allow you to run softer spring and not blow thru the travel. If you dont get full travel, soften the air a little. I have also had very good luck with mine and it rides awesome. no issues at all. Romic used to be RCR and I have heard of nightmarish reliability trouble with those. Maybe romic got it sorted but still skeptical.

I have blewn my Fox RC awhile back, and got a Stratos Helix Pro as back up. I like the Helix much more than the fox because I can use the soft spring that I like for downhilling but can still have bottom out protection for bigger drops. Bottom line the Helix is more versatile for me and I ride faster on the helix.

With the Fox I had to use a stiffer spring to prevent harsh bottom out and bent shock bolts. The plain helix pro is cheaper than a Romic or Fox. I have heard you can get a good shock...and it wont blow or get a lemon...when it comes to the stratos. So it is abit of a gamble.

My Helix has been running for 6months of pretty hard riding.
