| Question for a friend.... | Volkov Jan 29, 2002 10:55 AM | | Nope, I'm not asking about Viagra. He's about 220lbs, rides aggressively free-ride (NO DH or racing) plays with 5-7' drops etc. Anyway, he's currently trying to decide between the Giant XTC AC and the Stinky Deluxe. Shop here will upgrade the XTC wheels to 321's for $100 Can. and given the Shiver vs Z1 Drop-off, the Giant currently has the edge. Problem is that some mag reviews had suggested the Giants were a little flexy. He's checked the reviews, but can't find anyone talking about his level of Clydesdale. Any of you big guys have experience with these two frames to be able to compare? Dead of winter here, and he's flat on his back with an injury, so can't really test them in real world,(Not that shops like people doing 6 footers during avdemo ride)and there is the issue of a warranty exchange for a broken frame which puts some time pressure on the decision. THanks Volkov |
| clydesdales and Shiver SC | Cook Jan 29, 2002 11:38 AM | | I can't speak about the frames...(except I have a friend who has an XTC AC, last years model, he loves it, he's prob about 200lbs)...but I can speak to the Shiver SC. Your friend will DEFINATELY have to get stiffer springs for the that fork. I've been riding mine for two days and bottomed it on a 3 foot flat to concrete. I get almost full travel under heavy front braking so it is way to soft, even for my 160lb frame. I have just e-mailed Marzocchi to ask which springs came stock with the fork, and when will stiffer ones be available. I'll post a note on this board when I get the info. I don't know about the springs in the drop-off, I think that fork is set-up stiffer initially, but I may be wrong. Cheers |

| clydesdales and Shiver SC | Brian Peterson Jan 29, 2002 1:35 PM | | Try checking the oil height.... I have heard of some of the SC coming with low oil height... That fork comes with a heavy spring stock. Oil height should be at 50mm from the top with the springs out and the fork fully compressed. Bump it to as high as 45mm for bigger riders..
