| Winterpark mid-June | tonesurfer Jan 29, 2002 12:13 PM | | Planning a vacation with the family mid June. Will be in the Winterpark area and hope to do some DH there. What are the chances the lifts will be open by then? The bike shops all give me the "well it depends on what the weather was like and if there's still snow around". There's no way my sea-level lungs are going to carry me up hill at those altitudes. |

If Winter Park isn't open for lift served biking by then - check out Keystone. It's about 45 minutes away and they get a little less snow.
Again it all depends on snow. By the last week of June, unless an ice age rapidly shows up, you should be able to get lift served biking at Keystone or Vail. |
| Vail has far better DH than WP | urbanman Jan 29, 2002 2:08 PM | | I rode both last year and vail is far better. |

WP/MJ - don't underestimate what they have for DH. You just gotta know where the good stuff is.... |

Awesome downhill runs that scream. For me going from Virginia to Vail is definitely hard to try serious cross country as you will get wiped damn quick. If you do hit Vail go over to Lionshead and buy a season lift pass. It costs less than 50 bucks and the per day for the lifts is at leat 15 bucks, so if you are there for a week it is way cheaper to get the pass. You can also use it over at Beaver Creek about 25-30 minutes from Vail, although I think Vail is way better, but the option is available. |
