| East Coast Hardcore vs. SoCal Softporn | East Coast Stylin' Jan 29, 2002 2:36 PM | | Is it just me or do the guys that freeride and downhill on the Weak, I mean West, coast (read: not Northwest) ride tragically ridiculous nontechnical bullsh.. I mean I can huck huge if all I had to land into was a stupid fireroad or nontechnical wide trail. It seems Eastcoast stylin' requires more reasoning to land safely and requires much greater skill. Hucking off of 10'+ cliff drops into singletrack with trees and boulders everywhere demands a skill level which I believe the Weak coast girls cannot muster. That's all fine, but when a national comes to the right coast the organizers shouldn't pretty it up by dumbing down the technical side of it like they do at Mt. Snow and West Virginia. Keep the nationals on the east coast like the local areas do, dangerous and only the skilled need apply (read: no trust fund babys from the west need apply). Just my opinion, have a good day. |

| re: What do you mean by "West Coast?"... | kail Jan 29, 2002 3:03 PM | | I hope you are not including the Rocky mountain states in your little rant, because if you are, you should know that we have exactly the same trail conditions that you have. So does Cali, for that matter, in some places. It doesn't matter where you're at in the world, technical riding can be found anywhere. You're just jealous cuz' your "mountains" are only 5000' high! Have you even ridden west of the Mississipi, son? |

| Get a life..... | E Coastr Jan 29, 2002 4:39 PM | | Granted the east coast may be more technical and tight, but can you gap consecutive 40 foot doubles? Both regions have their points. It's time you become a little more open minded. Quite being a snob. I live on the east coast and would love to ride out west. Why... because it's different. |
| re: East Coast Hardcore vs. SoCal Softporn | AV Jan 29, 2002 7:00 PM | | I live on the east coast and the riding here rules. In November I spent a week in SoCal and rode every day, it kicked ass. Different than what I was used to on the east coast, but different in a good way. Still the best place I have been is without a doubt in Colarado, and I have been back there a couple of times. So this whole east vs. west stuff is garbage, they are different and in their own respects that is good. Head out to SoCal and ride there then let us know how lame you think it is, I think you will be pleasantly suprised. Just my two-cents worth. |
| west coast is were it all started! | marc g Jan 29, 2002 10:54 PM | | I'm an east coast rider not by choice and all i have to say is that most people on the east coast don't have a clue to what a transition landing is. Most riders enjoy doing these painful flatgrounders out here in massachusetts. It's a really ugly sight.i won't do anything over 5' without a landing ramp. every big drop I have hit, I've had to dig for countless hours just to make a landing.godbless the west coast with all the huge natural drops with superb landings. east coast means flatgrounders period! |
