HAYES: How to shorten the break-in perioed?Atomic

I'm pretty sick of having no more power than this I tried to burn the pads with a lighter, then wipe off the black dirt, but it's now even worse. I tried to put mud on the disc - nada. Any tips? Should I sand the pads? I cleaned them with ysopropyl alcohol. They make like a cliking when I brak too, They do this only when I'm moving, not when I just apply the brake. They are freshly bled.
did you try just repeated hard stops? nmYoung Bob Dylan

Most questions like this are--ride, ride, ride. Let 'em break in on their own. A good downhill run or two (which can't be found around here) should do it.

FYI, I've got Hayes HMX (mechanical) with 175 XC miles on 'em and they still don't stop much better than my old LX V-brakes--and they squeel like stuck pigs. Never been cleaned though.

My rear brake clicked some too right after I got it. It's gone away on it's own.

the best thing to do is to find a large hill and get the bike up to speed and then lightsly grab the brake and keep lightly holding it down the hilll. It takes a run or two but they will be heated up and you should have no problem braking after that... stay away from trying to impove on a good thing.. the only thing you are going to end up doing is buying more pads,,,
