Well I'm not a native or anything but I have spent a week riding in Fruita. Its a lot of fun. I think the rides are more oriented to xc type riding compared to moab where you can get as sick as you want freeriding. Others may correct me on this as I dont go looking for stuff to launch off. It will be hot in the summer, I would recommend spring or fall,,,just like moab. Check out www.edgecycles.com they are the local bike shop and were very freindly when I was there. I'm going back this March to enjoy it all again.

Hey hopefully this helps. Fruita is different than Moab. For one there is more climbing compared to Moab ( unless your in the La Sal's). Fruita's night life isn't as good, it's a smaller town. Then again Fruita has less people, more vertical, usually cooler. Not as much of the exposed rock trails like slickrock. Lots of singletrack. No 3.2% bars in Fruita. The bike shop on main street in Fruita is straight - unlike the bike shops in Moab (save Dream Rides ).

Fruita is about 2 hours away from Moab if you take the scenic route through the canyon to get to I-70. If you can I recommend rolling them both together - the weekends in Fruita are less crowded than the weekends in Moab.

Here's the lbs, check with them for more info-

I hate to say it but I don't know the "proper" names of the trails we like in Fruita - I just know how to get there. Best bet is to ask the guys in the local bike shop - tell them what you want to ride and they'll give you better directions than I can ( uh - turn left at that one tree past the convenience store...). We've found some AMAZING stuff in Fruita. Last fall I just pulled over and started riding some singletrack - it spit out into a small dirt half pipe that has a downhill slope - it goes on for like a quarter mile! That was SO FUN!

Typically we ride Moab weekdays, head to Fruita for the weekend. Rifle on the way back to the city. The big mesa in Rifle is a good scenic ride, nothing too technical. But don't fall off the side of the road - unless you wanna pull about a 500 footer to flat.

I can confidently say that anywhere you ride in Fruita you'll have fun. Email me if you want more info: brentont@syncor.com.
