| Rock Shox and their rebuilds of rear shocks?? | Christopher Robin Jan 29, 2002 4:56 PM | | Anyone know how much they charge to rebuild a shock (providing they don't lose it and actually work on it)??? Just a rebuild, nothing blew up or anything but it's doing that weird 'weezing' sound and the rebound works like crap...so does the compression for that matter.
Second question...has anyone ever figured out a way of putting bearings in the shock pivots? Or would sealed bearings not be strong enough.
Thanks!! |
| They charged me... | azonicbruce Jan 29, 2002 6:13 PM | | $60 for a rebuild. Funny, I was the idiot that atttempted to do it myself and almost shot my wife's face off when the nitrogen charged reservoir shot out the pin holding the pressure in.
Don't take those WARNING stickers lightly! Those things shoot out fast and hard!
Anyways this was about 7 months ago when I had a GT-LTS with the Super Deluxe model. It took a little under 2 weeks for me to get the shock sent, repaired, and returned. Not too bad. I've heard of people waiting months. BEST things to do is go to a bike shop that is a Rock Shox dealer and have THEM send it.
Hope this helps. |
| What's happened is this | bg Jan 29, 2002 7:08 PM | | Cycles Lambert is handling RS work now after Bell disappeared last summer. Lambert has an excellent service record and while so far they've done the job when it comes to ordering small RS parts, I haven't sent them any rear shocks yet. |
| Note that's in canada only and... | DeeEight Jan 30, 2002 4:59 AM | | there's an ongoing legal dispute with Bell Sports and all its former customers. Supposedly if a store owed Bell money before they shutdown, the brands Bell was distributing have been telling their NEW distributors NOT to ship their products to these stores until they settle up their BellSports accounts. One local store apparently owes in excess of $80,000 for parts they ordered on credit and didn't pay for when BellSports shutdown in the summer, including Rockshox products.
This might seem odd way to penalize shops because a distributor went kaput but it does make sense since if the stores weren't taking their sweet time paying off their booking orders (most distributors demand final payment by June1st of the model year, and first third around March 1st), then the distributors would have better cashflow to avoid bankruptcy. Also they'd be listing uncollected account as 'assets' during the bankruptcy since they ARE legally binding contracts. |
| Yeah | bg Jan 30, 2002 3:52 PM | | I heard about all that. I also have a good guess on which store owes so much money.... |
| re: Rock Shox and their rebuilds of rear shocks?? | Maynard Jan 29, 2002 8:30 PM | | I just had my LBS send my wifes sid rear shock & her sid xc fork back to rock shox for total rebuild & it cost right at 200 bucks. Ya didn't say if yours is a sid, but if it is I'd guess it will be about a 100 bucks. Like the other guy, I also had good luck with turn around time & both shocks are as good as new. |
