01 Super 8, reviews, thoughts?COmtbiker12

Hey, I could possibly have the opportunity to get a local Super 8 for about 1200-1300 complete. Here's its lineup 2001 Santa Cruz Super 8 in good shape. D321 rims laced to Razor Rock front hub and Hadley rear. Pro taper bars, Thompson seatpost and Titec Berzerker seat. Hayes 8 inch disk brakes. Manitou X Vert Carbon 7 inch travel fork(awesome fork). MRP chainguide and Ultegra derailleur, with Hussefelt Cranks and bottom bracket. Maxxis Minion tires front and rear. ODI lock on grips.
If its in good condition, would this be a good freerider? I've read that its a heavy bike, not really concerned about that, if I got it, would probably switch out the fork depending on its condition. Heard about some problems with the shock mount on the swingarm, wondering if that's a complete pain in the ass or just a small annoyance that can be fixed with loctite. Might even upgrade to a 5th element in the back if I got it, probably about 90% ridingaround, and 10% dh. Either this, or I'd probably buy the 04 bighit comp (as i've posted before). think its worth it?

check the frame thoroughly for cracks, esp. the swingarm. if the owner is over 175lbs and abused it i would pass. i suggest a nice lowball offer if you really want it: that will help you determine the bikes condition usually. if you offer 9hundo and he accepts, be pretty sure the bike is beat. riding it first would be my best advice. like when i bought your frame i saw it first and it was not thrashed so it was a good deal. full bikes can have many things wrong with them that wont show up until you throw a leg over it.

check it VERY carefully. i just bought a Kona Stab Primo from a chick, and it was cracked all around the headtube/downtube junction. so you never know, and she was about 25LBS less than 175lbs. luckily (for her) she is returning my $$. i told her i would sue for mis-representation if not. (she said she had checked for cracks and the bike was in great shape.) so, if the seller does not offer a return if not satisfied, i'd steer hella clear of that one..........

hard to tell from this crappy angle, but this goes right into the bead and wraps all the way around to the other side. she said she did not see it...... MY ASS! i can catch my fingernail in it

that 950 was absurd for an offer, the only response he gave to my e-mail asking questions and giving an offer was "lol"
just ask if he'll refund your money if it's effed up............WestCoastHucker

within a reasonable period, day or so. if he says yes in an e-mail, verbal, or otherwise, and wallah, you have a binding contract. with legal backing should it ever come down to it.... (my wife is in law school and she knows these things)
he hasn't sent me another e-mail yet after i offered him 1200COmtbiker12

so who knows, i probably won't deal with him at this rate, but it would be nice to get a good used bike at a price that makes it worthy of upgrading.
he imed me and wants 1300, good deal or not? nmCOmtbiker12

stick with and get if its still available. Its a 03 Ironhorse SGS Pro, Titanium coil on a 5th element, boxxer, and just stock. Ad is for about 1250, hopefully I can bargain it down to like 1100 or 1150, as long as I can do that, that would kick ass, seing as that bike is only like a year old, great parts, and probably less chance of it cracking on my while I'm riding. This is the perfect price fora bike like that for me, great parts, great price, and other than a few minor things, shouldn't have to upgrade very much at all. I just hope the guy hasn't sold it yet.
cracks...dream4est
