03 IronHorse SGS Pro? is 1250 a good price?COmtbiker12

Found one down in Durango at that price, virtually brand new, Titanium coiled 5th in the back, boxxer up front, stock parts mostly. Jm_ is it you that has experience with the IronHorse's? If so, I got a few questions, or for anybody else. Since the sgs bikes have the "FSR" linkage, are they as plush as spec's bighit's? also, do you think this is a good bike for freeriding and drops? Thanks.
it's a better DH bike than freerideJm_

It's not light, and if you want a freeride bike look elsewhere. It's a great DH bike though. I don't feel the SPV shocks are quite as "plush" as fox shocks, but they are very "controlled", so it's kind of a different feeling. What you might think of as "plush" might not feel quite the same, however someone else comming off a 5th might think that is "plusher" and that the fox is simply too bouncy. The 5th seemed to have a break in period, but I'm guessing that wouldn't be an issue if it's broken in.

I've done a good number of ~10 foot drops, give or take a little bit, and it holds up fine.

Stock parts are pretty good overall, but the boxxer race and the ritchey stem are pretty crappy. Too much flex from the 2-bolt stem, and the boxxer race has pretty crappy damping. I lived with them for a few weeks, but I switched out the boxxer for a used shiver with integrated stem, put on my SPD 545s, and I am very happy with it. The chainline is a little different than most bikes, and it shifts VERY nice, it seems to take a lot less effort to shift than even my XC bike, which I just ran new cables on yesterday. The Evil guide and Truvative Holzfeller cranks are some pretty nice parts.

For 2004 you can upgrade to a stiffer chainstay and linkage, so if that becomes an issue it can be resolved.

It's a great bike, the price is great, and it has some better features than stuff costing way more, like the 1.5" headtube, better shock rate than the M1, great DH geometry.

Yeah, i'm not used to very plush rides, since my vanilla r hasn't been rebuilt since it was new...in 01, lol, but it still works fine. I think that I'll probably get this if its still possible, and eventualy upgrade the fork and get a slider plus or something like that. thanks for the input Jm_.
thats a killer deal get it.....nmdream4est

Yea, I wanna get it so bad, and if I sell my stinky on ebay or something, and get like 1000-1100 for that, I can easily afford this. But, he has a rival buyer at his dorm and so I'm not sure who he'll sell it to, he said he'd give it to his friend for 1100, but I offered 1300, so who knows. He also said it wouldn't include cranks, shifters, or the e13 chainguide, but that shouldn't be too much money to make up, plus he offered an azonic helmet, and a mrp guide. so hopefully he'll go with me, so i can stick my stinky on ebay like tomorrow, and if i'mlucky have the money by like next weekend.
Yea, but unfortunately....DanD

you wanna go riding like friday or something? e-mail me or something.
man its so sweet looking, i just hope that the guy doesn't sell it to his friend, and hopefully I can get it. this would kick ass more than the bighit for the price, and i'd only have to invest like 150 or so to get it running (cranks/shifters). And hopefully I can get atleast 1100 of my stinky on ebay, think that sounds like a reasonable price? See ya later.
tony dont get too wrapped up in newer equipment.....dream4est

i bought your p1, you want to sell your kona to get more travel. do not get caught up in constant upgrading. westcoasthuckers brother rides with me at fgunbarrel and he is a smoother jumper than 98% of the freeride/dhers in colorado on a walmart mongoose with a judy c. remember its about skill not always upgrading. i am going less travel as i get smoother.
i'm not necessarily doing it for that but..COmtbiker12

the p1 was only bought for a parts bike for the stinky so that I wouldn't have to build it up from scratch, and i've realized now that, since the stinky could still use some better parts, not necessarily suspension wise, but just component wise, and that i've already spent enough money on it that for the same amount of money i could get a complete bike with better parts on it. and yea, unfortunately i get caught up in the moment with deals and stuff like that, lol.
.......GET IT!!Felpur

that's a killer deal on a good bike....it's easy to get wrapped up in upgrading...there's always some new bad ass part coming out that is lighter, stronger and better. It one of the things I love about this sport it the constant flux of improvment and growth. I love the technical aspect of things almost as much as riding.. when I cant ride I'am fiddling with my bike... I bet there is a bunch of us in that catagory......I bet in a few years we will all ride bikes that pedal like hardtails and have a foot of travel and weigh next to nothing.. I cant wait....
Found a local dealer....COmtbiker12

Apparently Performance is carrying Iron Horse's, or atleast that's what IronHorse's Dealer directory said. I'm gonna check with them, and see how much a new one would cost me, they might even have the 04s too who knows...
probably not actually, becauseJm_

the 04s will just be comming out, and they'll be charging as much as possible for them initially. Just like supergo, who charged $2500 initially for the SGS Pro(that's the retail cost). Then the price dropped down to around 2200 I think, then to 1900, and finally at 1800 if I'm not mistaken. I bought mine at the 1900 level, and that was an awesome deal, but the 04s will be more expensive at first, no doubt. Maybe someone, somewhere, has some levetover 03s? Those would be a good deal.
i ride an IH they are awsome!...finchy
