Yeah. We can't please 'everybody'. Glad you could be one of 'em and took time out of your busy schedule to post something.
BTW- How did we sell out? Enlighten me PLEASE.
Probably because it is in MBA?????....Beau

as well as Opera, but I thought MBA might be a better choice to put CPX on the map.
Nah Kirk, you should have put it in the Inquirer, cuz.......Nate N

inquiring minds want to know

Or better yet, Monster House. Make them come out and build your backyard with teeters and skinnies and shit, all on national tv.

I was wondering when someone would mention Kirks article and treat it in the manner that most articles from MBA are treated on this board.

Seems like everytime anyone references MBA here they get ripped unmercifully, doesn't happen everytime but it happens alot especially since the whole freeride/black diamond issue came out.

Now we have a regular to the board featured in MBA. Do you rip him a new a$$hole or congratulate him for being in MBA?

Considering all the different personalities on this board it does present quite a predicament
Who cares! At least they finally printed something worth while-Beau

It is better than all the stupid ads and retarted shootouts (or shall I say paid-off shootouts) of the newest bikes. At least they had some good quality photos for once. The only thing I saw wrong with it is that it only took up two pages of the mag. It ahould have been a 6 page story. Oh but wait, that other 4 pages could be a Supergo ad, DAMN.

I am glad that MBA did [NOT] mention 'BLACK DIAMOND' in the article.

I have been ripped for 'screwing up the forest' and 'anchoring to trees and killing them' and for 'ruining XC trails' since we started building the stunts. Ahh, I take it with a grain of salt.

The "HOLY SHIT!" and the "Damn! You guys are KICKIN' ASS!" comments make it worth while and gives us a boost.

As for selling out, Challenge Park Extreme (aka CPX) does NOT pay us, nor do they supply us with wood or screws. (no sympathy needed, we knew this going into the building phase) They just give us the land to build on. Just knowing that the stunts will NOT be chainsawed down, is a 'freeriders dream' to build some of the craziest shit and to see it come to life.
Maybe the fact that we sell T-shirts on our website to raise money for screws ($15/box adds up after a year of building) to keep building the stunts; we are 'selling out'.
If this is the case, so what. Sticks and stones...blah blah blah.

It's not like we plugged our website in the article. It's not like I am going to England to be 'knighted'.

We 'agreed' to the story in MBA to help out CPX and get them on the MTB map for having something 'other' than paintball and BMX.
They give us the land, the least we can do is try to return the favor and bring them some revenue cause of it.

All that matters, we SALLIES are having fun. Meeting NEW riders of all skill levels, age groups, and people just wanting to see what the hell all the rukus is all about. People coming from near-by states to see if its worth it or not. (hope most are leaving HAPPY. You always get that one guy who wants a 6" wide, 45' in the air HUCK-to-FLAT stunt)
Come join us if you are in the Midwest. It's NOT the 'real' North Shore, but it's as close as we can get in my neighborhood.

Peace!
Kirk

madness on a bike, or basically something along those lines
whats black diamond?Nick.
Dec 12, 2003 2:21 PM
It's a term derived from skiing to classify the difficulty of a run. Same idea only applied to biking and bike trails.

Thanks uk dahnilla!k1rkm

That's the way 'most' people see it too. Unfortunately, there are those who see it all twisted up in another manner. So be it I guess.

I think it's great you got your park some exposure in MBA.

I was just pointing out the obvious bias against MBA on this board in particular. Beau's post above illustrates that point referencing the paid off shootouts.

I know you weren't. No worries. Even if you did, (which you weren't) I wouldn't be too bothered by it anyways.

I am glad to see the support from you guys here on MTBR! If you or anyone else here on MTBR is ever in my neck of the woods, Drop me a mail, and I'll be glad to show you around and talk some good 'bike-smack' with you all!

Beau and his crew are coming down from MN next week. Should be some good times and some GREAT carnage pix to post up in a couple weeks.

Kirk
I'll be there in eight days, and I plan on crashing alot!!! nmD Buck

Alright, I'm going to get sensitive now............

I think that this place (Challenge Park) is only going to grow more and more. I feel that some day (10 years from now) I'm going to be damn proud I was able to ride it in the younger years of developement. Every great riding place started out as a little shithole riding spot. Then a group of people get a dream, and try to turn it into something. In this case, TEAM SALLY.

(Pause, need another beer)

OK...So they have a spot, on private property, that can't be touched by the public. That's awesome. That means, no chainsaw's, no tree-huggin dirt-worshipers, and no gov. intervention. I think they are damn lucky. I wish I had a place, and people who would provide me with this opportunity.

Me and Dbuck are heading out there a few days before X-mas, and I can't wait. It is going to be the best X-mas present I will ever get, and I have to pay for it!!!! Out of a possible 10 people who wanted to go, me and Dbuck are the only ones who are commited.

I truly beleive that this place is going to reproduce like rabbits. More and more people are going to join TS, more and more people are going to hear about TS/CPX and more people will help donate to TS/CPX, CPX will only get bigger and more tech., and soon everyone around the US(and maybe you Canadians) will begin to make the trek there just to say you were there. I beleive this place has only began to be noticed, soon it will be common language amongst MTB'ers, Dh'ers, and freeriders.

So I say, "Hell YEAH", This is only the beginning of something that could be (and quite possibly will be) HUGE. Even if the first place they were seen (poor grammer) was Mountain Bike Action, Props to TEAM SALLY. I tell ya they would NEEEEVERRRRR come to the places I ride to do a photo shoot.

So hears (beer in the air) to TEAM SALLY and the future of Challenge Park. I can't wait to tell my kids I was there.

Alright, I'm done flame away losers.......
at least mba is trying......dream4est

they had team sally and a woodward mtb article in the same issue. i was impressed (though not enough to shell out 4 dollars). remember one thing: those who bash richard cunningham probably have not built one of the first fs frames, ran his own bike company and edited a major bike rag for 10 years. just trying to balance out all the negativity with a little reality. i will now open up my umbrella to protect myself from the rain of sh*t i am about to receive.
I will agree, RC is a very cool guy..............nmBeau

...anyone remember the Mantis Pro-Floater??? not only one of the first full suspension designs but one that actually worked?? don't be doggin' RC...
props to team sally whoever you guys are for not knuckling under to granola-munching tree-huggers and arm-shaving lycra-wearing XC freaks stuck in the 90's. "freeride" is here to stay thanks to efforts like yours...
if any of you have watched lumberjack comps on the tv - you know that a tree can flourish with no problem for years after having some nails driven into it...
