I have a nice Schwinn Straight 6 '01 and after disassembling the frame in order to install new sealed bearings I noticed a cut in the carbon fiber seatstays near the pivot. What can I do and is there a possibilty to get even a new one? Can anybody tell me, if the carbon fiber seatstays from the 4 - Banger and the Straight 6 have the same size, so that I can easily change them?? Or can I turn a Schwinn 4 Banger into a bike with 6 inches of travel by just changing the damper?
Where can I get help. I'm from Europe/Germany.

Is the seat stay broken or just cut a little from hitting something. If its not broke I wouldnt worry to much aride it until it does break, because I bet finding a new one will be a bitch |

Dec 13, 2003 1:35 PM | | You can use a 4 Banger swingarm as a replacement. The carbon fiber swingarm geometry is identical. Odds are the cut is only on the surface. Just keep your eye on it and mark the length. If the cut grows you should replace it.

Unless you've seriously impacted the swingarm directly on this location of the carbon fiber, I think you are OK. I'm sure Ebay occasionally has a Straight 6 or 4 Banger for sale if you need spare equipment. |
