24 Hours of Allamuchy Q'sSolo24
Nov 7, 2003 12:24 PM
I'm considering trying my first solo 24 hr race next yr at the 24 hrs of Allamuchy. I've done a bunch of races out here on the west coast and hope to make the transition to solo 24 hr racing.

I'm picking Allamuchy as I grew up right around the corner from the course and remember the riding as being top-notch. I'm looking for some specific info on the trails that make up the course, administration and organization impressions and any other info that those who've done the race might have.

Thanks for the input!

If you would like additional ifo drop me an e-mail. Sounds like I should be able to answer most if not all of your questions regarding Allamuchy.

I would highly reccomend doing the race. I has a large turnout of solos and the race ran as close to perfect (inc the weather) as possible this year.

If anyone has any constructive comments on the race or the course, please do not hesitate to drop me a line.

I had an incredible time. It was definitely a blast. I was part of a 4 man team but there were plenty of solo riders. I thought the course was great, plenty of technical to make it interesting but nothing life threatening you could kill yourself on. Definitely NOT a dirt sidewalk NORBA course. There were plenty of opportunities with lots of room to pass. It rained like a mofo but most of the course was still decent. Some of the new sections were soupy for the first couple laps. The course was about 11 miles with laps that ranged between a little over an hour to about 2 hours a night lap in the rain.

The admin and organization was great, easy in and out with the bar-coded wrist bands. From my perspecitve, everything went off without a hitch. The camp sites were good with pallet type structures to put your tent on (keep you off the ground). One of our guys brought a race tent (highly recommended) and we a tarp/poles to cover our picnic table and gear. The guys in a nearby cabin let me hook up my charger between laps, otherwise there isn't any power at the campsites. I think they had a NR charging station but I don't have NR lights. This could be a big deal for solo because you will need light all night long, not just the 2 laps like me. Plenty of extra batteries are recommended. Pit toilets, public showers, bike hose-off, water pumps were all available available. There was a restaraunt/snack bar on-site. I don't know if they were serving all night but the post-race Fajitas were tasty.

That was my first and only 24 hour race so I can't compare to others. I'm just sorry I couldn't make it for this years race. Sounds like it was another good one.

if homebrew was refering to the rain and the bar codes...that was two years ago. last year, was a little better only because it didnt rain during the race. the course for 03 was more techincal than 02 still fun. there were ALOT of solos i think like 40+ there should be a website somewhere with all the results.
Ummm, no. This year is 2003 so that makes...Homebrew

2002 last year. This years race is over but it was still this year. The 2002 race was last year and this years race was 2003. Get it?

You picked a good one to go solo. Sure, it's technical (do some weight lifting this off season...you'll be glad at 2am riding through your 1,000th rockbed).
The big plus to Allamuchy is how convenient camping is to the course. There are many sites that aren't convenient to the start/finish...but that's ok for solo 'cuz they're right on the course. So you'll be able to ride right up to your tent, clean clothes, cooler, stove, sleeping bag, etc. during a lap. That's a beautiful thing.
