Light for 24 hour solo races?(4 posts)

Light for 24 hour solo races?ctxcrossx

Happy Holidays everyone!

I am planning on racing a few 24 hour solo races this season and I'm trying to figure out what to do about a lighting system. Right now I have the niterider Digital Pro 12. The battery is dead right now but I'm planning on getting some new cells to try to make it work again. In fact, I just purchased a second light with the same exact battery (also dead), so if I can make one battery work, then I can make both work. Assuming this works, the only problem I have is that I don't particularly care for the bar mounted light too much. I had problems racing with it last year because of the typical bar mounted light problems (light isn't always pointed to where it needs to be). Should I just stick with this system? Will I be able to get these dead batteries to work as good as new?

If a new lighting system is in order, I was thinking either the niterider cyclone or the light and motion arc hid headlight system, and then ordering a second battery. Would that be enough juice to last one night? I like the longer burn time of the niterider, but I've heard of complaints of excess weight on the helmet with them. Any suggesions would be greatly appreciated.

Chris

Oh yeah, I've also considered the Lupine, but I don't think I want to shell out that much money on a bar mounted system.

Chris,
I just did a 24 hr race in Sept. I use the Niterider Storm helmet light. With how bright this light is there was no need for a bar mount light. Most of the racers that I saw were riding with this same configuration. I have heard that the bar lights throw your balance off a bit, but I can't tell you from experience. I will be user the Storm all this year as my only light if that says anything.

There is a Lupine Edison for helmet mounting as well. Very pricey but awesome. The LiIon batteries with the Lupines are what I think are nice--super light weight. I run a helmet light as my primary light with a bar mount light as back up in case my primary light goes out.

I have a light in motion arc that i use...i can't say enough about it. It is kike ride during the day. I have used both the niterider storm and the light in motion and arc and prefer the arc. It seems to have a larger pattern and then in the middle a bright beam. Whereas the the niterider didn't seem to have as wide a pattern and then bright beam in the center was considerabley smaller and not as bright. Just my two cents, you might see if you can track down one of each and try them though, it is big chunk of change so you want something you'll be happy with
