| Taiwan Continental tires | Allan Oct 10, 2001 8:44 AM | | I'm sure this has been discussed, but when did Continental start manufacturing their mtb tires in Taiwan? I picked up one of the new Escape Pro tires at a LBS, along with a new Explorer Pro, and was shocked when I saw "Made in Taiwan" on the sidewalls. I've had a German made Explorer Pro up front for about 2 years, and I have a couple of the discontinued Comp Pro 1's that I found last year at a LBS, so I haven't needed a new tire until recently. When did this happen? Plus, I hate the "extreme"-like graphics they're using on the side walls now. BTW, the Escape Pro looks like a real winner, especially for the rear. 19.1 ounces, 541.5 grams, at the post office digital scale. Thanks for any input |

| could it be an OEM tire? | jw25 Oct 11, 2001 11:16 AM | | I know a few other tire makers do something similar, where the aftermarket tire is made in Japan, say, while the heavier, lower thread count ones are made in Taiwan or someplace with low-cost labor.
Was the tire packaged in the Conti box, or just loose?
It is disappointing, but the bottom line has to come into play somewhere. |
