| re: please help!!!!! | WaveDude Oct 10, 2001 2:25 PM | | Does it feel like the chain is slipping or is it only noisy? If the chain is slipping it's probably time for new rings and cassette and chain. If it's only noisy check the following:
1) Crank arm bolts tight (really tight). If they're loose and you've ridden it when they were loose you may want to pull them and check for damage--especially if it's a square taper BB. If you decide to pull the cranks you might as well do step 3 now too.
2) Pedals. Remove 'em, grease the threads, re-install.
3) Pull the cranks. Pull the bottom bracket. Clean, grease. re-install.
4) Check the chainring bolts to make sure they are tight.
5) Still noisy? Try rebuilding the pedals.
In my experience, a popping sound is usually a loose BB. But then I religiously check my crank-bolts (a torque wrench relly helps here and avoids over-tightening). |
