Chain Tool with SRAM Chain?(3 posts)

Chain Tool with SRAM Chain?Nutmegger
Oct 11, 2001 6:41 AM
Having just broken my 2nd Shimano chain this season, I'm set on trying a SRAM. My questions are:

Do you still need to carry a chain tool? Does the chain ever break where you need the tool to put it back together so you can get home or can I just leave the chain tool home?

Thanks in advance for all responses.

I still carry one anyway. You never know exactly where the chain will break. I also carry a spare power link. Now in my case, I have never broken a chain, but I have lent the tool twice to others who have. The weight isn't much of a load.

I carry the chain tool and a spare link just in case. I've never had to use it but my buddy did. He buggered the chain somehow while riding. All he had to do to get back on the trail was to remove the offending link and reattach the chain using an extra Powerlink.
