cogs interchangable?(4 posts)

cogs interchangable?toad

I have ordered a PERFORMANCE 8spd rear cassette. The size is 12-32. I happen to have a 11t Shimano cog (almost new) and lock ring in my "parts box" that I was thinking about putting on instead of the 12t cog that comes with the new cassette. Does anyone know if this will work? PERFORMANCE claims the cassette is compatable with Shimano but I'm pretty sure this only means that the shifters and chain are compatable. What do you think?
It should work...Metroid

I've never used a Performance cassette (most likely a SunRace) but it should work. I'm using an XTR 12-32 eight speed cassette with the 12-14-16 cogs replace with 11-13-15 from an 11-30 XT cassette. It gives me a bit more high end speed for when I ride on the road.

It'll work, but most likely the timing of shifting ramps will be upset. This may make shifting into the 11T sprocket slower. Why don't you take off the 32T cog and make it an 11-28 cassette? 13-11 jump is very noticeable.
will work fine, but 11-14t jump kinda bigclub

if you can scare up loose 13 and 15t cogs, use them to replace the 14 and 16t ones, so you get closer jumps: 11/13/15/18....That's what I do, although lately I've just use the 12 and pedaled faster.
