| race face arms with non race face rings | T2ride Oct 13, 2001 3:09 PM | | Hi,
Im new to bike mechanics and i just bought a pair of used race face crank arms without the rings. I got everything installed except the small chainring because i noticed that there is no "bulge" on the raceface crankarms wear the small ring bolts on to like my oem crankarms had. In other words, if i install the chainring, it's butted up against the actual arm with no space. Is there a spacer i can buy for this? OR do i need to get actual races face rings?
Thanks in advance. |
| most cranks use separate spacers for the granny | club Oct 13, 2001 4:04 PM | | mostly only the cheaper gravity-cast cranks like it sounds like you have have the spacer posts built in. The spacers you seek are available at any bicycle shop. As long as the bolt circle and number of bolt holes is the same, you can pretty much use anybody's rings with anybody's cranks. |

| most cranks use separate spacers for the granny | mc Oct 14, 2001 5:06 AM | | I have race face turbines on my bike. Just check your clearance on the inside of your granny ring with your frame. I had to use a thinner granny than I already had, which was thicker around the mounting area but the tooth area is the same thickness on all. This extra thickness put the mounting screw heads for the granny ring too close to my frame, so had to search around for a thinner one.
Good luck with the cranks, you should really notice the difference. |
| did you need to find the spacers? | T2ride Oct 14, 2001 1:36 PM | | I looked at three LBSs and REI today and no one had spacers for the cranksset. THey had spacers but they were to thin. I looked at the cranks on other bikes, which had XTs and such, and non of em used spacers, all of em had that built in bulge. Any suggestions? |
