...The M950 is a 8 speed and the M953 is designated as "Mega 9" which means that it is designed to handle a narrower 9 speed chain. a 950 will work with a 9 speed setup but will not shift as smoothly as a 953. Also, the 953 is designated as a "bottom swing" which means that the clamp will ride higher on the seat tube which can be a clearance problem with some full suspension designs and water bottle cage clearance. The 950 is a "top swing" design. Also notice that front deraillers are designated as "top pull" or "bottom pull" which simply means if your front shift cable is routed along the top tube and pulls from the top or is routed under the bottom bracket shell and pulls from the bottom.
