3spd with Paul's Melvin Tensionerbasil

Has anyone tried running a Paul's Melvin Tensioner with a single rear cog and three chainrings up front(a 3-speed)? Wether or not it makes any sense to do so is another question entirely. Any takers? Would a Singlerator work as well?
