| My Anti-Shimano Drivetrain - not trying to cause irritation | Navarro f. Spain Oct 16, 2001 12:55 PM | | Hello everybody from Spain! I want to show some of my ideas about components in the drivetrain (Sorry if I make some faults, my English is a little weak):
- Chain: Connex (Germany) 904 or SRAM; yet, nearly as expensive as Shimano (here in Spain) but much more durable, I can change with 2000 km (1200 miles) without wearing out other pieces. Harder and stiffer than Shimano's, never bend, a little harder to move among cogs.
- Casette: SRAM 7.0, cheaper than Shimano, good quality, I am waiting for under 25$ 9 speed cassetes
- Rings: BBB (spanish brand), here we dont have Reals or RF, lucky americans, but it is more less the same, not as good as Shimano, but more durable. Never bend.
As you can see, I don't care about quality, I have found with the time that it is better buying medium or low components and replacing them more often than spending the money in x2 or x3 components than can break with the hard use. Every components likely to break (rear derraileur = Sh. Deore), or that needs sustitution, is better going to the "cheap market". Spend the money in other more durable parts: headset, stem, cranks...
Happy trails. Waiting for your opinions. |
