| bought my rapid fire 8 speed rear at Cambria for $59.: | clary. Oct 16, 2001 9:12 PM | | just looked and they only have a 9 speed front and 8 speed rear combo.
Shimano XTR ST951/952 Shift Brake Combo
Compatible with 8sp. Rear shifter is 951. Front shifter is 952. Slight difference in appearance in the units. Shimano is no longer making the Front 951 shifter so this is the only way to go XTR on an 8sp.
Sale Price:$149.00
Original Price: $179.00
8 speed shifters are getting as rare as rooster eggs. |

The derailleur is just a slave. The overall width of an 8-speed cassette is the same as a 9-speed, only the spacing is smaller between the cogs on a 9-speed. I'm using this setup and it shifts flawlessly. |
