Rear deraileur Adjustment question.(3 posts)

Rear deraileur Adjustment question.afrankistan

been adjusting my own deraileur for a while now. I'm pretty decent but I have a question. When I want to do a thorough (fresh) adjustment (not just fine tuning, where do I reset the high and low screws, all the way tight? And where do I set the barrel adjustment, all the way tight or loose? ? thanks

I guess i don't know if i do it the correct way, but here's how i do it. I start with high low screws out, because i don't want to restrict it yet. I screw in the barrel adjustment. I then set the cable tension, leaving a little of slack to pick with the barrel adjustment.

To set up your rear derailluer. Back off cable tension at both barrel
adjuster. With chain on smallest cog pull excess slack out of cable and retighten clamping bolt. To set the low limit screw place front derailluer in small ring. Shift chain onto the biggest cog in the back. Set the limit screw so that the derailluer pulley wheel is aligned with the cog. To set the high limit screw shift the front to the big ring and the back to the smallest cog. The derailluer pulley should align with the outer edge of the roller on the chain. Fine tune your cable tension with everything in the middle (front and back)shift back and forth between the same two cogs until it shifts up and down evenly. For rapid-rise rear derailluers simple turn your brain inside out because every thing is backwards. You should not need to reset limit screws unless you have bent or otherwise changed something.
