| Bottom pull FD on a top pull frame?? | Boj Dec 30, 2003 7:35 AM | | I was wondering if there is any way to run a bottom pull FD on a frame intended for a top pull one?
Thanks in advance. |
| sure is | club Dec 30, 2003 7:42 AM | | before top pulls were commonly available, a lot of frames used top tube cable routing with a bottom pull derailleur, using a roller mounted low on the seat tube, below the derailleur. You can do it by drilling and tapping a hole for a bolt, like the size of a water bottle cage bolt; and a roller from an old roller stem or a rollercam brake, etc. |

Is it possible to pivot the cable around that little 'bridge' between the chainstays (Just aft of the BB shell)? Some plastic would have to go there of course to guide the cable as well as protect the frame from rubbing. What do you think? |
| would probably work, but roller would have lots less friction | club Dec 31, 2003 5:49 PM | | cables don't much like being forced around tight 180 degree bends. drill and tap for a screw the size and pitch of a water bottle cage bolt, I should know that size but I don't. real easy to do, a tap is real cheap and worth having in that size, as that size comes up a lot on bikes and it's also good for unbuggering threads. only way you can screw it up is to drill the initial hole too big. |
| how about a dual pull? | mids76 Dec 30, 2003 8:56 AM | | How does that work when replacing a top pull? |
