Worn Cassette(3 posts)

Worn Cassettenoname

I think I waited too long to swap chains and my cassette is toast. I am going to try putting on a new chain and hope it works. If the new chain doesnt skip, will I be damaging it making it wear quicker because of the worn cassette?

Also, what other drivetrain parts should I replace when i get a new cassette?

Thanks
Anyone? nmnoname

If you install the new chain and it doesnt skip, just ride and don't worry about it. If the cassette is worn, you will be able to tell pretty quickly. If this is the case, I would also look at the granny and middle rings for sure. They may also require replacement.

Chain life varies dramatically depending on where you ride. I ride in pretty sloppy conditions, and therefore change my chain twice per season, and install a new cassette every year. Other people in drier climates, may extend these times accordingly.
